Google Glass with Fred Armisen

Rhonda and I are fascinated with the whole Google Glass idea. We have been following the "progress" of this technology for a while now, and because it is still in its' beta stage, we are wondering where it will end up. Can this technology be incorporated into prescription eyeglasses? What if the small screen were instead, full-view, and could automatically correct your vision via its' screen? Hmm...I see battery life as a possible problem here.
Here is Fred Armisen (Yes, we are Portlandia fans!) on SNL "reviewing" the Google Glass-

And here he is trying them on for real...

Google Glass - A Positive View

Google Glass - A Positive View.

Farhad Manjoo posted a very informative review of Google Glass on Slate.com with a very interesting, positive spin. It reminded me that I hate my phone and that I want something better. We should keep in mind however, that the Google Glass is very much in its' Beta stage. I will wait until GG2.0 to think about spending money on it. What do you think?

Cool Eye Test Charts

Over at Dark Roasted Blend you can peruse through a fun collection of cool and unique eye test charts like the one on the left below consisting of some of the most common and popular acronyms, and the chart (bellow, right) specifically designed for the police.

My favorite is the cartoon chart with eyes from some of the most popular cartoon characters. I am proud to have identified all but two. How many can you identify?

Science Photo Winner-Fleyeglasses!

This is the winning photo of a German Science Photo competition. These eyeglasses were laser cut to the fly's 0.08-inch-wide (2-millimeter-wide) head! The lenses are obviously not corrective because there would have to be 3000 to 5000 of them. Based on that, I am going to assume that these are reading glasses. Nice style!

Peril Sensitive Sunglasses

Joo Janta 200 Super-Chromatic Peril Sensitive Sunglasses

Be Afraid. But Don't Panic.

Fans of the TV version of the wonderful Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy will remember these.
While the style may be a tad future-steam-punk, this is the type of useful technology I think we need today. Activated by encroaching danger, these darken to totally black, super-fast to prevent the wearer from witnessing whatever terrible thing is about to happen. Unfortunately these are not available in our collective time-line. Yet.

How Your Brain Works

This is about how your brain collates the data. You have your fast thinking and you have your slow thinking. If you are using the wrong speed at the wrong time, traffic jams can occur.

The Centrifuge Brain Project

This is a fantastically well done mocu-mentary about the design and construction of some impossible amusement park rides. It's also very funny! I love how in videos like this, your brain, in fast thinking mode, assumes the reality of what it is perceiving. After a few clues the slow thinking part of your brain begins to pick out the holes in the illusions.

Just Cause I am a Zep Head.

Over the years I have come to realize that some musicians and bands are more 3-dimensional than
others. I do not have the faintest reason as to why, but whenever I hear Led Zep, it hits me viscerally.
I grew up with their music and grew tired of it due to massive over-play. I cannot get enough of it now.
It was so nice to see them being celebrated like this.

The United States Post Office Needs You!

The United States Post office has an illustrious history. Some people believe that our country would be better served, by getting rid of the USPS so as to support "private enterprise" like, I suppose, Fed-X and UPS, who both charge 3 to 5 times higher rates.

We are a very small business that ships via USPS exclusively because of the great price (which we do not charge our customers for), the excellent delivery time (2 to 3 days in the continental US), and the amazing fact that out of over 1200 deliveries so far, we have only had one mis-shipped (lost) item.

On January 27th the USPS rates are going to go up. Why?

There is a fantastic article on Esquire that explains the history of the United States Post Office, where it is at financially and why some people do not think that the USPS should be in existence.

Rhonda and I both hope that you will read this and support the USPS, which you need to know is NOT tax funded, by signing a petition at WhiteHouse.gov.

It's all here- "Do We Really Want To Live Without The Post Office?" -Esquire

Thanks for being concerned citizens!

Trippy Optical Illusion

Photograph via persnicketypoop on Reddit

I vote this photo as the best optical illusion of 2012!
It's weird how your eyes and brain switch states while gazing at it.
Twisted Sifter has the top 100 photos of the day for last year up
and there are some remarkable shots, but not as twisted as this one.
Whats your favorite optical illusion?

Needing Eyeglasses Is Not Funny

A (we think) funny eyeglass commercial from Europe. Apparently the
folks that commented on it on YouTube didn't get it. We liked it because
it was not only funny, but short.

We have another very funny European eyeglasses advert that supposedly
was banned. You can check out if you dare, after the jump. Warning: NSFW
